Social distancing doesn’t apply to rich fox hunters terrorising cubs

Right now, chainsaws are cutting down some of the UK’s last remaining ancient woodlands for corporate profit, and protesters are being assaulted. Meanwhile, not far away, the rich continue to use our woodlands as their playground, hunting fox cubs for pleasure. Our countryside isn’t for the likes of you and me: it’s a haven for the wealthy to do as they please and for corporations to plunder. This reality becomes even starker if you’re unlucky enough to come across hunters on horseback terrorising foxes. Above the law Latest footage filmed by Somerset Wildlife Crime (SWC) shows around 60 huntsmen of Blackmore and Sparkford Vale Hunt (BSV) sending their…

Noam Chomsky tells court that Julian Assange has ‘exposed power to sunlight’

On 30 September, distinguished academic and public intellectual Noam Chomsky‘s written testimony was read at court during Julian Assange’s extradition hearing. Extraterritorial reach Chomsky had previously appeared on Democracy Now! to denounce: the extraterritorial reach of the United States, which is shocking. Why should the United States… have the power to control what others are doing elsewhere in the world?… It’s [an] outlandish situation. It goes on all the time. "We have to silence this voice" – Chomsky on the obvious, primary motivation behind the indictment of Assange, cheered by the establishment wings of both main parties in the US & UK. Boris Johnson’s message to the world on ‘diversity’ and ‘wonder’ is breathtaking for all the wrong reasons

Ahead of the United Nations’ (UN) biodiversity summit on 30 September, Boris Johnson sent a message to the world. It was absolutely stunning, but for all the wrong reasons. Because the PM called on the global community to “leave the next generation a world every bit as diverse and wondrous as the one we inherited”. But his government is busy doing the exact opposite of what he’s preaching. “The most dangerous species in history” As the executive secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Elizabeth Mrema, recently warned, nature and biodiversity loss are at “an unprecedented level in the history of mankind” because of the actions of…
