White prison officers at HMP Full Sutton accused of assaulting a Black Muslim prisoner

Content warning – this article contains a description of violence by prison officers Allegations have emerged that a group of white officers assaulted a Black Muslim prisoner at HMP Full Sutton on Thursday 22 April. A police complaint has been made after Dwayne Fulgence was left bleeding on the floor of his cell in HMP Full Sutton’s Segregation Unit. Serco denies breaching health and safety duty to employee killed by prisoner

Serco has pleaded not guilty to breaching health and safety at work laws after a mentally ill prisoner killed a guard who was escorting him. Lawyers acting for the security company, which is currently courting controversy for its running of the UK’s coronavirus (Covid-19) Test and Trace, told Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday that it denies one count of failing to ensure that staff were not exposed to risks to their health, safety and welfare. Sheffield students sponsor Chilean political prisoner Carlos Peyrin

Sheffield solidarity group Student Action for Chilean Human Rights (SACHR) is sponsoring political prisoner Carlos Peyrin through a scheme being launched by UK based-human rights campaign Chile Solidarity Network (CSN). Peyrin was one of the thousands detained while attending anti-neoliberal protests in Chile in 2019. The protests began when students jumped turnstiles at the Santiago underground in protest at fare hikes which to led to mass anti-neoliberal demonstrations across the nation. “Appalled” Peyrin was arrested on 3 December 2019 by the PDI (civilian police) and transferred to a detention centre.
